In summer, these fellas can often be seen in groups of up to around twenty. They dive around and hunt through the shallows of the lake, as can be seen in this video below.
Other shore birds like pelicans, egrets and herons often shadow the cormorant pack, hoping to get in on the feeding action.

When: I've read that these birds are migratory, traveling between New Guinea and Australia.
Having said that, I've seen them around here pretty much all year round.
