Rainbow Bee Eaters

Rainbow Bee-eaters are as cute as a button.

When: We see them around here during the spring-summer breeding season.

Their nests are long tunnels (nearly 1m in length) dug into sand banks.

A pair has nested at Coondibah Creek for the past couple of years but their attempts have been thwarted.

Firstly by bad luck, with their sand bank getting washed away after heavy rains caused erosion

Then with people and their dogs climbing around their nesting area, despite signs warning being erected near the nests.
